Jessie "Tap" Boston

Jessie “Tap” Boston, 83, went to be with the Lord Saturday morning, July 22, 2017.


Jessie was born on October 19, 1933, to Dave Boston and Rosella Robinson Boston.  He was the widower of Ellen Corine Major Boston.


Jessie joined Mt. Moriah Baptist Church at an early age and during his lifetime he served as a Deacon, member of the Senior and Sanctuary Choirs and a member of the cemetery committee.  He also served in many fraternal organizations including Azzam Temple #84, the Ancient Egyptian Order of Nobles of the Mystic Shrine of North and South America, Inc.; he is a member of Anderson Consistory 239 of Scottish Rites of the Southern Jurisdiction and a member of Iva Lodge #408 where he was a Past Worshipful Master.


Jessie worked at Owens-Corning Fiberglas and retired in 1989 after 38 years of service.  He also worked at D. B. Walker Funeral Home for many years, where he was known as Rev. Walker’s “right hand man”.  Even after his health declined, he was given a name tag that read “Retired Senior Attendant”.   


Jessie was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Corine Major Boston, parents, Dave and Rosella Boston, sisters, Ella Mae Boston Scott (Edd) and Mable Boston Johnson (John Willie); brothers, Clyde (Pauline) and David Boston.


He leaves to cherish fond memories, son, Nathaniel Leverette (Jennie V.); daughters, Vivian Boston-Breazeale (Douglas), Susan Boston Gray and Phyllis Major Tucker (Herbert), all of Anderson, SC; six grandchildren, two raised in the home – Shona Merritt and Cedric Gray; thirteen great-grandchildren, three raised in the home – Centravious, Marcellous and Silas Owens and five great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Eugene Boston (Catherine) and Charles Boston (Willie Lee); three sisters-in-law, Mary Alice Thompson, Pauline Major Johnson (Nathan) and Laura Frances Boston; and brother-in-law, Willie Major (Minnie).  He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a special friend, Julia Mae Brown.
