Elnora (McGowan) Davis

Mrs. Elnora McGowan Davis, 103 years old, widow of Henry Davis, passed away Wednesday, January 24. 2024, at the Callie and John Rainey Hospice House.  Born in Honea Path, SC, she was the daughter of Grover and Maggie Rosemond McGowan.

Mrs. Davis was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and had served in many capacities.  She was an usher, a youth advisor for the RA’s (Royal Ambassadors), member of the Woman’s Missionary, and sung on the Jubilee Choir.  Mrs. Davis attended Rosenwald School, and she was also a community advocate who supported her neighbors and their children.  She was a staunch believer in voter registration, who worked the polls and made sure she voted in all elections until her 100th birthday. Mrs. Davis was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Martin King Chapter 367 and was retired from Chiquola Mills. 

Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Henry Davis; daughter, Vernice Davis (Mozell) Mattison; sons, Paul Henry (Frances) and Richard Davis; granddaughter, Beverly Vernzell Mattison; five siblings, Jessie Mae Henderson, Lucille Anderson, Roberta Snipes, Lonzo and Cleveland McGowan.   

Mrs. Davis leaves to cherish loving memories, her son William (Mary) Davis, of the home; granddaughter raised in the home, Myrtice Mattison (James) Collier, Anderson, SC; five other grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services are 2 pm Sunday at Liberty Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.  Mrs. Davis will be on view Saturday from 3-7 pm in the Ollie Stewart Memorial Chapel, D. B. Walker Funeral Services, 19 Rouse Street, Honea Path, SC and will be placed in the church Sunday at 1 pm. 

The family is at the home of her son, William (Mary) Davis, 108 Mount Nebo Church Road, Honea Path, SC.
