Shirley Prothero, 63, of 102 Clarence Avenue, Anderson, SC, passed away at her home on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. Born in Harlem, New York, she was the daughter of Mary Praylow and Roger Prothero.
Although born in New York, Shirley has spent many years in South Carolina (Newberry and Prosperity). She first came to South Carolina in 1985 and stayed for twenty-two years, and then returned to New York. After a few years in New York, nine to be exact, she decided to come to Anderson, South Carolina and make it her home. Shirley loved to dance – she had a passion for it and was very good at it. She had also worked at New Horizon Family Health Services in Greenville, SC as an Outreach Counselor.
Shirely was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, David Praylow.
Shirley leaves to cherish fond memories, four children, Quanell Jamar Prothero, Sr., Kwasia Jaimique Young, twins – Kahlil David (Marlena) Young, Sr. and Kaneka Aleah Young, all of Anderson, SC; she also raised Gerika Clay, of Greenville, SC and Winston Gordon, of Pennsylvania as her own; one brother, Ronald Praylow, Maryland; five sisters, Beatrice Praylow and Barbara Robinson, New York; Evangelist Carolyn Prothro-Brown (Rev. Henry Brown), Margo Pacifici-Praylow (Tamara) and Pamela Praylow, all of E. Stroudsburg, PA; six grandchildren, Quanell Jamar Prothero, Jr., Ziana Chant’e Love Prothero, Kehlani Chanel Young, Kahlil David Young, Jr., Sanaa Diana Skipper and Marlee K’noir Young; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral service is 1 pm Thursday in the Marvin R. Mattison Memorial Chapel, D. B. Walker Funeral Services. Public viewing begins Thursday at 10 am and the family will receive friends from 12:30 pm until the hour of service.
