Blondell Jones Andrews
Anderson, SC - Mrs. Blondell Andrews, daughter of the late Gladys Henderson and Grover Jones Sr. was born December 5, 1944 in Williamston, South Carolina. She peacefully departed this world on August 16, 2019 to join her parents and siblings.
She attended Geer-Gant Elementary and was a 1962 graduate of Spearman High School. Upon finishing school, she moved to New York to pursue a career in Accounting. She was employed at Pain Webber and Chase Manhattan Bank in New York. After the birth of her only daughter, Tonya, Blondell returned to South Carolina where she continued her accounting work at Bank of America. While living in South Carolina, she met Robert C. Andrews Jr. The two were married on April 2, 1985 and soon after moved to Detroit, Michigan. While residing in Detroit, Blondell was employed with United Way Southeast Michigan until she was no longer able to work. At that point she opened her home to babies and children which soon came to be affectionately known as Mamadell’s Daycare.
Blondell was an active member of John Wesley AME Zion Church, in Detroit, where she was involved with the choir and church bowling league, along with her husband. Blondell and Robert lived in Detroit for 22 years until relocating to Anderson, SC where she remained vigilant in caring for children and being an active member of New Holly Light Missionary Baptist Church. Blondell loved family, socializing, fashion, traveling, shopping, eating desserts, and enjoying life.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Gladys and Grover Jones Sr.; sister, Blanche Jones Martin; and brothers, Grover Jones Jr., Hayward Jones, Paul Jones, John Henry Jones, and George Jones Sr.
Mrs. Blondell Andrews leaves to cherish her precious and loving memory: her faithful and loving husband, Robert C. Andrews Jr. of Anderson, SC; one daughter, Tonya Payne of Brooklyn, NY; one grand-daughter, Toniqua Mikell of Warwick, RI; one grandson, Kevin Peay Jr. of Irmo, SC; two godchildren, Erika Andrews and Corey Borders of Detroit, MI; her special cousin Helen Shepard of Anderson, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and caring friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.
Funeral services are 1 pm Saturday, at New Holly Light Missionary Baptist Church with the pastor, Reverend Dr. Curtis Hill officiating. Burial in the church cemetery The body will be placed in the church on Saturday at 12 noon.
