Macie Lynette Thomas Sadler, 90, widow of Leo Sadler, died peacefully Sunday morning at Ellenburg Nursing Center.
Macie was born on August 1, 1929 in Anderson County to the late Clarence and Carrie Thomas, as one of six children. The family settled on the south side of Anderson. Macie was a 1951 graduate of Reed Street High School.
While in high school Macie was fortunate to get a job working for the family that owned and ran St. Mary’s Hospital, (a private hospital). As a result, it was at St. Mary’s that she received health care and both her daughters were born there. Macie worked for many years and retired from AnMed Hospital in 1992.
Macie was a lifelong member of Mt. Carmel CME Church where she served in various capacities. “Miss Macie”, as she was affectionately known, was a popular, dedicated and active member. She gave freely of her time to the Mt. Carmel community along with the Southeast Community Task Force (SECT). Macie was revered by all who knew her as a caring, loving person who always had a smile and kind word for everyone.
Macie was married for nearly 50 years to the late Leo Sadler, a union that produced one daughter, Mazie.
Preceding Macie in death were her parents, Clarence and Carrie Thomas, daughter, Mazie, husband, Leo and siblings, Azalee, Nathaniel (Buddy), Carrie Lee, Estella (Stell) and twin, Mabel.
Macie leaves to keep the memory of her life alive, one daughter, Marcia (Marcie) Thomas of Los Angeles, CA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
Funeral services are 12 Noon Monday at Mt. Carmel CME Church with burial to follow in Westview Cemetery. The body will be on view Sunday from 12 noon until 8 pm and the family will visit with friends from 4-6 pm and will be placed in the church Monday at 11 am.
