Obituary

Benjamin "Redd" Cobb, Sr., 84 years old, of Honea Path, SC, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at the Callie and John Rainey Hospice House.

He was born April 23, 1942, to Arotha Cobb. On May 15, 1965, he married the late Shirley Ann Woody Cobb, and they were married for 59 years. He was known to family and others as “Redd Cobb”.

Redd attended school in the Abbeville County school district. He was the only child of Arotha but spent his early life growing up in the home of his aunt and uncle, Harold & Nettie Cobb Adams and their children became his brothers and one sister.

Redd grew up attending and became a member of Fairfield Baptist Church, Abbeville, SC and later joined Faith In Christ Baptist Church, Honea Path, SC. He started working with Duke Power, Abney Mill, and later retired from Goodman Conveyor.

Redd was a great sportsman, playing baseball and being a part of the famous Honea Path Stingers, and when he stopped playing, he became an umpire, still participating with the younger players.

Redd was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Shirley Woody Cobb, mother Arotha Cobb, sons David “Tudy” Woody, Benjamin Cobb, Jr, and Kevin Mark Cobb; great-grandson, DeKory Rice; son-in-law Larry Brownlee; sister Mary Alice (Sue-Sue) Sloan; brothers, Eugene (Samp) Cobb, Thomas (Tuck) Cobb, William (Booney) Cobb, James (Snowball) Cobb, and Ernest (Mackey) Adams; grandparents, Thomas & Lula Bell Heard Cobb.

Redd was a family man and leaves to cherish his memories daughters, Brenda Cobb-Brownlee, of Honea Path, SC, and Minister Kim Cobb-Rice, Anderson, SC; daughters-in-law, Thelma S. Woody and Melissa B. Cobb; thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Funeral services are 2 pm Sunday at Faith In Christ Baptist Church, 10672 Augusta Road, Belton, SC, with burial to follow in Eastview Cemetery, Honea Path, SC; public viewing is Saturday, from 3-7 pm at the Ollie Stewart Memorial Chapel, DB Walker Funeral Services, 19 Rouse Street, Honea Path, SC

The family is at the home of his daughter, Kim Cobb Rice, 507 Jackson Circle, Anderson, SC, and granddaughter, Ko'Easta Brownlee, 21 Robinson Street, Honea Path, SC.
