Gladys Leonia Johnson Allen, 84, widow of Earl S. Allen, of 207 Clinkscales Street, Anderson, SC passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026.

Born in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of the late Willie Johnson and Annie Cowans Johnson.

Gladys was the Co-Owner of Alterations Unlimited in Anderson, SC, where she was a well-known seamstress. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where she sung on the choir and a member of the Women’s Missionary.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Allen; one grandson, Kendale Shakur Allen; one great-grandson, Praiz Allen; five brothers, John Willie Johnson, Paul Johnson, Samuel Cleo Johnson, James Johnson and Arthur Cowans; two sisters, Ruth Ella Baker and Catherine Simpson.

Gladys leaves to cherish fond memories, four sons, Grady Earl Allen, Darrin E. (Samantha) Allen, Christopher Allen and Kendric Dale Allen, all of Anderson, SC; four daughters, Johnnie Faye Allen, Atlanta, GA; Sonya M. (Ricky) Gambrell, Tara Allen (Luther) Smith and Sherri Jean Allen, all of Anderson, SC; two brothers, Robert (Dorothy) Cowans and John David Cowans, both of Anderson, SC; twenty-eight grandchildren; forty-nine great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services are at 10 am on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery. Public viewing is Friday from 3-7 pm at D. B. Walker Funeral Services, and the body will be placed in the church Saturday at 9:30 am.
