Dr. Irving Pressley McPhail

Raleigh, NC - Dr. Irving Pressley McPhail, 71, died Thursday, October 15, 2020, at WakeMed Hospital.   Dr. McPhail was the President of St. Augustine University, where he had served for three months.

During his career, Dr. McPhail served in executive leadership of public school administration, higher education and nonprofit work. He was the founding chancellor of the Community College of Baltimore County, the president of St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley and the president of Lemoyne-Owen College in Memphis, Tennessee.

He is survived by his wife, Dr. Christine Johnson McPhail, Raleigh, NC; daughter, Dr. Kamilah McPhail McKissick (Juan) of Charlotte, NC and son, Ralph Bessard (Angela) of Woodland Hills, CA.

Services are as follows:  Saturday, October 24, 2020,  public viewing will be on the grounds of the Historic Chapel of St. Augustine University, beginning at 11am until the hour of service.  Funeral service will start at 12 noon. Interment will follow on Sunday, October 25, 2020, 12 noon, at the New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Darlington, SC.
