Johnny Ray
Mance
Jun 4, 1950 — Aug 8, 2025
Johnny Ray Mance was born on June 4, 1950, in Anderson, South Carolina, to a loving family who taught him the value of hard work, kindness, and perseverance. He grew up surrounded by a close-knit community and carried those early lessons with him throughout his life.
His journey was not without challenges, and there were times when life's difficulties created distance between him and those he loved. In his later years, Johnny committed himself to making amends and strengthening relationships as best he could. Those who knew him well remember a man who strived to live with compassion, generosity, and was willing to lend a hand to anyone; Johnny touched the lives of many.
He was married to Frances Simmons Mance, his devoted wife, partner, and friend. Together, they were grounded in love, respect, lots of laughter and fond memories.
Johnny was the father of five sons, Gregory Henry, Reginald Mance, and Andre Byrd, all of Anderson, SC; Christopher (Tereba) Harris of Greenville, SC; and Jonathon Mance of Norfolk, VA. Three daughters, Hele'na V. (Rev. Scotty) Gaines, and April Mance, both of Anderson, SC, and Melissa (Robert) Skinner of North Carolina. Twin bonus daughters, Melesha and Elesha Thompson, both of Anderson, SC. He also leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Shirley Mance of Atlanta, GA; Gloria (Harold) Bauknight, Carolyn Clinkscales, Brenda (Andrew) Slaughter, and Judy (David) Hagood, all of Anderson, SC and four brothers, Timothy Mance of Columbia, SC; Michael (Carol) Mance, Stephon Mance and Tracey (Johnnie) Mance, all of Anderson, SC. A host of nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
Johnny departed this life on August 8, 2025, in his hometown of Anderson, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Mance Sr. and Allean Campbell Mance; three brothers, Charles, Jimmy, and David Mance; one sister, Annie Ruth Hamilton; and one nephew, Lonnie Mance.
Johnny will always be remembered.
