Obituary

Reverend Keith Hunter, a native of Kingstree, SC, was born on February 17, 1960, and transitioned to his eternal home on June 24, 2025, at MUSC Health Florence Medical Center. A devoted pastor, veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and community leader, Rev. Hunter served faithfully in the South Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church for over three decades. He was a summa cum laude graduate of Claflin University and an honor graduate of Gammon Theological Seminary. Throughout his ministry, he pastored several churches across South Carolina and was most recently appointed to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Kingstree. From 1994 to 1997, he also served the following churches in the Anderson Circuit: Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, and Mt. Sinai United Methodist Church, all of Anderson, SC. He was deeply involved in civic, social, and religious organizations, including Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., and the NAACP. Furthermore, he was a past worshipful master and secretary of Prospect Lodge #404 and the associate patron of Good Hope Chapter #269 OES. Known for his passionate preaching, mentorship, and editorial work with The Voice Newspaper, Rev. Hunter was a transformative force in every community he served. His warm spirit, unwavering faith, and love for people, especially his family, will be remembered by all who knew him. Reverend Keith Hunter leaves to cherish his memories and honor his legacy: his wife, Yolanda Bowman; his children, Doward Terrell Hunter, Devyn Malachi Bowman, Shai'Evony Tyaja Bennett (Keytorial), and Evelyn Kamiyah Bowman; and his cherished granddaughter, Kehlani "Lanie Girl" Bennett. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Mrs. Cheryl Greenlee; siblings, Lenord Hunter, Curtis Hunter, and Edna Earline Chandler (Olin); brother-in-law, Stanton Greenlee; and five sisters-in-law, Keri Williams (Richard), LaSondra Carson, Quantina Rice, Cielita Rice, and Destiny Jade Rafey. His memory is treasured by his aunt, Mrs. Hazel Austin, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lindberg Sr. and Lillie Mae Hunter; brothers, Elijah and Linburg Hunter; father-in-law, Stanley Greenlee; nephew, Lorenzo Hunter; and great niece, Katlyn Smith.

Graveside service is 1:00  p.m. Wednesday at Anderson Memorial Gardens.
