Obituary

Reverend Deborah Smith, 68, of 3 Hawthorne Street, Honea Path, SC, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at the Callie and John Rainey Hospice House.  Born in Greenville, SC, she was the daughter of Stephen A. and Katie Pressley Smith.

Deborah joined the Liberty Baptist Church at an early age, and she worshipped there until she moved to Seneca, SC where she attended the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church.  While in Seneca, she was licensed as a minister at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church and ordained by the Seneca River Baptist Association. Deborah eventually left Mt. Nebo to help plant a new church called New Beginning Outreach Baptist Church where she served in various leadership capacities. She eventually became Assistant Pastor under the leadership of Rev. Horace Alexander Jr., and she continued serving the Lord.  After retiring from Clemson University, she moved back to Honea Path and reunited with Liberty Baptist Church where she served as an Associate Minister.

Reverend Smith was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Stephen Douglas Smith.

Reverend Smith leaves to cherish loving memories, sister, Phyllis A. Young, Honea Path, SC; loving nephew, Montoya L. Smith, College Park, GA; niece, Chatierre Rice, Columbia, SC.

Funeral services are 2 pm, Saturday, May 14, 2022, at Liberty Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.  Reverend Smith will be on view Friday at D. B. Walker Funeral Services from 3 -7 pm and will be placed in the church at 2 pm on Saturday.

The family is at the home, 3 Hawthorne Street, Honea Path, SC.
