Steward McAlister was born Feb. 18, 1947, and passed on August 20, 2024, in Anderson, SC.  He was the son of Sara Rice McAlister and Amos McAlister both deceased. He was a graduate of Geer Gant High School class of 1964 and South Carolina State University class of 1971.  As a youth he attended church with his father at Pleasant Grove Baptist and in adulthood attended Liberty Baptist.

Steward worked at BASF, but his true work was as a jack-of-many trades.  He was a carpenter, comedian, community advocate, fire-healer, financial advisor, map-reader, parliamentarian, bid-whist master, and teacher.  He loved to learn new things and test others on their and his knowledge.  He met no strangers and easily engaged in conversation with his family, co-workers, neighbors, Sunday School class, exercise members, and caretakers.  He cherished the memory of traveling to the Redwoods, going to the top of a glacier in Alaska, seeing the skylines of major cities in the U.S, stargazing at the top of Pilot Mountain, betting on SC State Football plays, cheering on the SC State marching and jazz band, hosting family and friends for Thanksgiving and so much more.

He loved people, especially his family.  He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Grace Delphena Wilkerson McAlister, children Akwokwo (Shonta) and Akwete McAlister, brother James McAlister, and sister Della M Walker.  He was preceded in death by brothers MC McCalister and Clyde McAlister. He adored and was adored by a plethora of in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends.

A Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at Liberty Baptist Church in Honea Path, SC. The viewing will be from 3-7 Monday August 26, 2024 at the funeral home in Anderson, SC.
