WILLIAM JAMES WALKER

Starr, SC - Between sunset and sunrise, God called to William James Walker to take his rest.  He was strong in his faith and was a soldier in the Army of the Lord.  He was born to the parents of the late Luther Jean Walker and Katy Lee Evans Walker on October 25, 1934.  On Wednesday, April 10, 2019, just before dusk, God called his name, and he peacefully entered into his heavenly home.  He was known to some as "Pee Wee" and some called him "Lil Bill".  The grandchildren called him Granddaddy William James, but to his children, he was known as Daddy.

He was a graduate of Westside High School.  He worked for many years in the textile industry where he retired.  He loved working on cars and was a mechanic at heart.  A few years after retirement he wanted to go back to work and took a position with the Anderson School District 3.  It was there that he was known to the faculty, staff, and students as Mr. Walker.  He decided to finally retire from working at the school when he could no longer perform his daily duties.

William joined Pleasant Grove Church where he served faithfully for many years.  As he matured in his faith, he became a Spiritual Father and a man of faith to many.  Later, he was ordained as a Deacon, and he also served on the Senior Choir and the Gospel Chorus where he loved to sing along with his father.  He served faithful in the ministry at Pleasant Grove Church until the time he left, and joined New Beginning Ministries serving as a Deacon, and it was there he was known affectionately as "Daddy Walker" until his health began to decline.  William then returned to his home church Pleasant Grove until his untimely passing.

Preceding his death, William was married to Queen Ella Clinkscales Walker and to this union, they had five children.

William leaves to cherish his memories, two sons William (Deborah) Walker of Inkster, MI; James (Brenda) Walker of Iva, SC; daughters Dorise (Ronald) Witcher of Anderson, SC; Sharon Roebuck of Iva, SC; and Patricia (James) Gambrell of Anderson, SC.  He has nine grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren. One sister preceded him in death, Lilly (Rufus) Lockhart, and he has two remaining sisters Luella Frazier and Nina Mae Harling both of Anderson, SC.  William is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Otis Clinkscales of Anderson, SC and Eugene Clinkscales (Shelda) of Detroit, Michigan;  one sister-in-law Annie Ruth Vaughter (John), of Modock, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family is at the home of his daughter, Sharon Roebuck, 130 Faith Lane, Starr, SC
