Charlie Battle, Jr. of Honea Path departed this life on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at the AnMed Medical Center in Anderson, South Carolina.
Charlie Battle, Jr. was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, on June 3, 1943, to Charlie Sr. and Leola Evans Battle.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Sylvia Mattison Battle; three brothers: Willie Lee (Valrico, Florida) Joseph and Kenneth Battle (Washington, D.C.); three sisters: Diane Singleton (Rocky Mount, North Carolina), Denise Anderson (Bethesda, Maryland), and Belinda Battle (Washington, D.C.); a stepdaughter-in-law: Louise Cummings (Springdale, Maryland) and her children: Ernestine, Sherwood, Charles and Emmanuel; a stepdaughter: Stephanie Hylton (McDonough, Georgia) and her children: Marquel, Kevanya, and Ricari; God-Daughters: Alberta Norman and Glenda Oliver; a special niece Shirley McDowell, grand-nephew Brian Hunter and many other nieces, nephews, greatgrandchildren and in-laws. He also leaves many friends and co-workers in the community who loved and respected him for his compassionate nature.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Robert Earl (Pete) and Leon Battle, a sister Sharon Battle, wife Amanda Battle and stepson, Charlie Cummings, Jr.
Charlie became well-known in the Honea Path community through his work at the Chiquola Mill, The Commercial Bank, the Watkins Community Center and Honea Path Town Hall.
He was a member of the New Broadmouth Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, the Superintendent of the Sunday School, and a member of the New Life Community Center Board.
He enjoyed a life of service to others.
Family and friends will fellowship and share reflections and memories at the D. B. Walker & Co. Funeral Home, 311 Cleveland Avenue, Anderson, SC on Saturday, August 10, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 P. M. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Honea Path First Baptist Church, 100 S. Main Street, Honea Path, on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at 2:00 in the afternoon. Interment will take place after the service at New Broadmouth Baptist Church, 1400 Abercrombie Rd., Honea Path.
