Eugene, 89, of 401 Montague Street, Anderson, SC, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025.
Eugene was born June 13, 1936, in Iva, SC, to Ernest and Icy Wakefield Burriss. Eugene, known as Gene, attended Westside High School. After high school, Eugene joined the US Army and served during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged and returning to Anderson, SC, he was employed with T. Ree McCoy Realty and worked as a truck driver for 60 years.
Eugene married Ina Ruth Agnew Burriss (Annie Ruth Burriss), and they had four children, Jimmy, Annette, Vickie, and Tamia. Also, raised in the home were two grandchildren, D’Angelo Burriss and DeAndra Burriss.
Eugene was a devoted member of Wilson Creek Second Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and was a member of the B & S Singers.
Eugene will be missed by his daughters, Annette and Tamia Burris of the home; grandchildren, DeAndra Haliey (Terrell), Chavaye’ Watson, Parashante Johnson and Tia Watson of Anderson, SC; Inanna Johnson of Atlanta, GA; sister, Doris Hall of Philadelphia, PA; great-grandchildren, Tieasha Burriss, Raven Martin, Tequila Burriss, D’Angelo Burriss, Jr., Detrerion Haliey, Demasio Burriss, Avery Lynn Johnson, Andryel Watson, Lontrell Haliey, Sincere Carson, Addison Carson, and Isacc Johnson; great-grandchildren, Jayce Rainey, Kashton Rainey, Raelyn Rainey, Caiden Bell, Arielle Bell, Nyomi Bell and Ayden Martin; a host of other relatives and friends.
Eugene was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Ruth Burriss, parents, Ernest and Icy Burriss; son, Jimmy Burriss, daughter, Vickie Jean Burriss, grandson, D’Angelo Burriss, great-granddaughter, Ava Leigh Johnson; three brothers, Jim Henry, William and Edward Burriss; six sisters, Ella Lee Smith, Maerene Johnson, Elizabeth McMahand, Teacora Young, Rev. Magnolia Burriss and Minister Katherine Burriss.
The family is at 1307 Belhaven Road, Anderson, SC.
