Marjorie Beaty Obituary

Marjorie Jones Beaty departed this life on February 16, 2023.  She resided in New Orleans, LA, at Covenant Nursing Home for the last few years.  Marjorie was the second of nine children born to the late Aaron Jones and Mable Scott Jones on February 9, 1941, in Iva, South Carolina.  After she graduated from New Deal High School in 1959, she studied cosmetology in Georgia.  Thereafter, she returned to Anderson to live with her late aunt, Azalee Hunter and worked as a hairstylist.  Throughout her adult life and in addition to her daily work as a shipping clerk at Electrolux, Marjorie worked as a seamstress.  She was known to many in the community for her creativity and talent with a sewing machine. She enjoyed other handmade crafts as well, including crochet, cross-stitching, and macramé.

Marjorie was formerly married to Claude Beaty of Anderson.  To their union, one daughter, Michelle Beaty, was born.  She was an exemplary mother, dedicating much of her life to her daughter. She was a faithful member of Pine Grove Baptist Church where she started and helped maintain a food pantry for those in need.  Marjorie also enjoyed reading, watching westerns, and dancing.  She was an industrious woman who believed she could do just about anything.  She was not easily intimidated by any task, including the building of a closet in her home and the renovation of a bathroom, which she completed on her own.  She had a strong work ethic, a generous spirit, and loved her family.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Horace Jones, sister Dessie Mae (Recie) Brown, as well as her grandson, Myles Gullage.  She leaves behind her daughter, Michelle, and granddaughter, McKenzie Gullage, both of New Orleans, LA, and six siblings with whom she shared a close bond: Sarah Johnson of Starr, SC; Doris Paul, Claudine Rousey, and Juanita Hall, all of Anderson, SC; Aaron Jones, of Easley, SC; and Michael Jones, of Greenville, SC.  She also leaves several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to cherish her memory.

Michelle would like to acknowledge and thank the administration, nurses, and staff at Covenant Home in New Orleans. The compassion and care given to Marjorie while she resided there will never be forgotten.

A funeral service will be held at Pine Grove Baptist Church, 205 Mt. Vernon Road, Iva, SC on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 1:00 pm, Reverend Darrell Woods officiating, with burial following at New Silver Brook Cemetery. A repast will be held at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 4909 Highway 81 South, Starr, SC.

There will be NO PUBLIC VIEWING as requested by the family, but they will be receiving friends at the church from 12:30 pm-1:00 pm on the day of the funeral service.
